Lately, all I see on Instagram, Pinterest and alike are these pretty stripe pieces taking center stage. This made me wanting to know of how far the #stripe trend has gotten. This is one classy trend that gets better with each passing year. Stripes seem to work their way through any season, mood and work way beyond standard work wear staples.
It may come as a surprise to you, as it did to me, but did you know? 31st March is termed as the National Stripes Day by J Crew. This just proves how infectious this trend has been over the years. Designers reinvent these styles year on year making this a staple trend work it’s way onto the ramps every Spring Season.
Making a choice to wear your favorite look in stripes can get a bit confusing. To get a better sense of the trend, I have put down a few pointers / tips to help you figure it out! I also thought to create these 2 colorful looks from my closet for college goers and young #bossgirls out there. Don’t forget to experiment a lil’ and improvise on these ideas to make it your own.
- The Decorative Shirt Dress:
A very classy elegant look that is easy to replicate. To get this easy free flowing look, I am wearing an oversize full sleeve shirt dress. I picked this up during my holiday in Thailand ( Street shopping in Bangkok ). To better this look I’ve rolled up the sleeves and added a black belt from shein.in. Bold black suede boots from Koovs complete this look. . I have also worn a layered necklace from my favorite stores Ayesha and the Sunglasses from IDEE. You can try out different ways of accessorizing this outfit but try to avoid stripes for the footwear.
So don’t think over this too much and go ahead, borrow that favourite striped boyfriend shirt or ask dad dearest for his and sport on this look and dun forget to wear a very bold pair of sneaker, boots or heels that will compliment your outfit and you’re good to go.
If you like to just skip the jazz and check out the Shirt Dresses I’ve picked for you this season, Scroll to the end of this post ! Enjoy.
- Monochrome Trousers:
Stripes are a norm in the workplace and now it’s becoming a trend in the classroom as well. As a working woman myself I am always on the lookout for trendy outfits to better my wardrobe and what better way than this self-styled look that is very effective and makes a statement without much effort.
For this office look, I’ve gone for a pop, off–beat combination. Vertical stripes are always a good idea when wearing wide width trousers ( Vertical Stripes Trousers ) like this one from Shein. The stripes make your appearance look taller and leaner especially if you feel short. You will definitely enjoy the monochrome trouser with a tucked black or contrast color top. In my case I wore a Tank top tucked well and paired it with a red jacket. Oh yes, how I can forget… Heels are a girl’s best friend and for this look, my best bet was my favourite pair of block sandals by 20Dresses – Classic Diva Black Heels
Take the Tip:
Coming to the tips and trick when it comes to working with stripes, there are no rules as such but I have put together few guidelines to better your overall style and get the right look together.
- Vertical or Horizontal Stripes
Safe bet is always vertical stripes as it works like a magic trick making anyone look a lot taller. While horizontal lines are not at all a bad idea. Horizontal stripes make one’s silhouette look wider in size (especially with trousers). You can definitely opt for a skirt, off shoulder top or body con dresses of horizontal stripes to make a lasting impression.
- Pinstripes all the way
For fuller outfits like dresses and jumpsuits, I would lean towards pinstripes. Thinner lines are just way more flattering to look at than thick bold lines.
- Mix and Match:
As seen on celebrities and at fashion shows it’s a very good idea to mix and match stripes on stripes! I’m not a big fan of this trend but have noticed that a wide crop top with horizontal stripes will go effectively well on a similar print of palazzo pants or with a well fitted knee length skirt.
So there you have it, my basic go to looks in Stripes. I hope that these looks and the tips will inspire you to also give into the trend. Do share your take on the same in the comments section below.
